About Dr Micheal Raad

Dr. Micheal Raad is a Johns Hopkins trained top spine surgeon, in Miami Florida, whose career has been dedicated to improving the lives of patients through innovation, research, and most importantly high quality compassionate care. He is trained in the most cutting-edge surgical techniques including disc replacement, endoscopic spinal surgery, robotic surgery and minimally invasive spinal surgery.

Today, Dr. Raad serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and as Director of the Spine Research Program, where he leads efforts to push the boundaries of spinal care and improve patient outcomes. He was recently awarded the 20 Under 40 Award by the North American Spine Society. Dr Raad remains up to date by being an active member of multiple societies including the North American Spine Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and the Society of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.

His journey began with a research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he focused on ways to improve outcomes after spinal surgery. His early work earned international recognition when he received the Best Research Paper Award at the North American Spine Society (NASS) in 2017, selected from over 1,200 abstracts. This landmark study on the effects of opioids after spinal surgery helped change how surgeons approach preoperative pain management and shaped clinical guidelines still in use today.

Dr. Raad went on to complete his orthopedic surgery residency at Johns Hopkins, one of the most competitive programs in the country. There, he was honored with the prestigious Frank Miller Coulson Award for Clinical Excellence, recognizing his commitment to delivering the highest quality of patient care. His dedication to advancing spine surgery continued, and in 2024, he was again awarded the NASS Best Research Paper Award, this time for groundbreaking work on neurologic outcomes after spinal deformity surgery.

He then completed a fellowship at Johns Hopkins in advanced spine surgery, focusing on complex spinal reconstructions, revision surgery for failed back operations, scoliosis, disc replacements, motion preservation and cutting-edge endoscopic techniques—training with some of the foremost leaders in the field.

Outside the operating room and research lab, Dr. Raad is a devoted husband and father. Married to a fellow physician, he and his wife are raising their young son in South Florida, where they enjoy traveling together, biking, and cooking as a family.
